Beware incoherent political rant below.

I know, I know... don't talk about politics.  I have resisted the urge to discuss my feelings towards politicians and the political process on this blog, but hearing the following quote from Barack Obama, original told to me by Jonathon Burns made me crazy.

“If I am sitting pretty, and you’ve got a waitress who is making minimum wage plus tips, and I can afford it and she can’t — what’s the big deal for me to say, ‘I’m going to pay a little bit more.’ That is neighborliness.”

One issue I care about is the money I earn, and some that know me would think it is the only issue that matters to me.  Well that money I earn allows me to live the life, I want to.

There are problems I have with the quote above.
  1. The quote suggests that it is my civic or neighborly,  (potentially American), duty to earn money to build wealth in order to give part of it to other people that work hard too.
  2. Since when does paying taxes mean that hard working waitresses will actually see the money.  To choose the other side to that I believe the money will go to the dirty politicians (of all parties), and I believe no politician is immune.  So maybe Obama is suggesting his LARGER federal government needs more money for inept and poorly run government organization such as Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. (Yes, I understand that prior to my money bailing them out they were partially private).
  3. Some of that extra money will go to Americans, but what percentage of those Americans deserve it.  Since when does being American mean you deserve anything.  Most of that money will most likely go to those that don't want jobs.  Why does one need a job when the government will guarantee that every American has a right to a cellular phone, a home apparently, and who knows what else.
I wonder a couple of things, how does Barack Obama tip?  I hope for his sake that he is dropping a cool G to each of his servers, which by the way Obama, server is the politically correct job title.  Undoubtedly he probably uses his campaign contributions rather than touching his own money.  He like every other member of the US Congress gets paid far more than they should based on their approval rating, but why should they care, since they get to give themselves raises.  Our American government is out of control.  Power needs to be returned to local governments.

In closing, I would like to apologize for the rants above.  I just can't stand our current political situation.  If most Americans weren't educated by the government, then maybe they would realize how bad the current American government is.  I know this is still the greatest country, but change in this country is slow, so what am I worried about.  Well it seems that both Democrats and Republicans are hell bent on seizing as much power and hard-working American money as possible.  Oh wait... they just want to take money from the wealthy, because they have proven that they are not hard-working.  However, if they want to take money from wealthy Americans that are not hard-working, then they should start raising taxes on just the politicians of the Federal Government rather than giving themselves raises.

I feel ya Mac.. i honestly think his comment was taken out of context...first, i think we all dont give politicians enough credit...if we were all judged by every word that came out of our mouths...i think we would all find that we put our foot in it often.... next, the Bush administration has provided tax cuts to the wealthy and raised taxes for other Americans who make far less...i think Obama's point was not that people who make more money dont work hard...looking back at history, the american economy thrives when the middle class is doing well...which in part means that the rich get richer when the middle class is stable... Obama's point is that we should not be cutting taxes for those who can afford to pay more, we should be cutting taxes for those who need it most, which as history proves, makes our entire economy better....i can remind you that before Bush, this country experienced the largest suplus it has ever had...there is a reason why the previous administration's tax policies worked, and given the econonic situation it is only right to want to revert back to those policies that made this country richer, not poorer... both republicans and democrats will tax Americans, their difference is who they tax more and where the money is eventually spent...our current president feels our money should be spent on war...our president elect feels that it should be spent on healthcare, energy independence and education...

Really anonymous poster? You feel me? Yea right. I read your response and your points, and I think cutting and pasting from the DNC talking points is not called fact...Politicians, especially those in Congress set there own salaries, so in what world do they deserve credit for having a horrible approval rating by giving themselves raises...next, damn right the current executive and legislative branches gave the wealthy tax cuts, because they have the money to put back into the economy. I'd like to see the economic proof that the tax cuts were bad and or the root cause for economic woe... Also show me where in history the economy thrives with the middle class doing well, but wait while the achievers are being punished for success through taxation. I am probably ignorant on this point, so perhaps you could enlighten me... Also apparently we had a surplus, where did that go? Surely, you are aware that Bush does not make the financial decisions of our nation. He does have veto power, but the decisions are made by the beloved Congress... Also you suggest the previous administration's tax policies worked. What were those policies? I believe they did not try to tax the crap out of achievers... I agree both parties will tax Americans, but as long as we have a progressive income tax we are living up to one of the tenets of Marxism. So good for us, punishing success and rewarding failure and laziness makes sense. Just cause one works hard does that mean they deserve anything?... I might be wrong, but I believe our money should be spent on protecting our nation too, but then again I'm sure China, North Korea, Iran, and the Arab world are excited about the president elect too... You're right our president elect's campaign promises suggest that he wants to take more money from achievers and lose it all in government programs that are proving they can fail year in year out just like most public education systems... Or making an industry that is private socialist, healthcare... I do agree with energy independence, but I believe that the democrats bailing out the Auto workers union is not energy independence. It's a waste of money that was stolen from the achievers in America. I want to go to a country where success is rewarded, maybe Australia. Oh this is Mac, Anonymous, just thought I'd let you know.
